Design Brief
This client works in a Japanese material plastic company and has a wide range of interests including healthy eating, fitness, traveling and cars. He requested us to create a cozy retreat amidst the lush greenery by bringing the outside in through a design that engages all 5 senses.
Client Testimony
“It was a pleasure working with Joshua, as my dream of having a beautiful, cozy apartment for myself was accomplished. He was present throughout all phases of the project, and designed everything with such finesse,. I cannot be more thankful for what he has done.”
Design Concept
We took into consideration the surrounding Telok Blangah Hill Park and Nature Reserves adjacent the apartment. With a plethora of greenery such as Bougainvillea flowers, Espalier fruit trees and lush vegetation outside, we decided to blend these natural elements as the main idea of our design proposal.
To accomplish this, we studied various leaf structures to create textures, scents and colours that appeal to all 5 senses. A selection of materials to evoke intimacy with nature was also used, which we articulated through the silhouettes of trees, timber floor, furniture and sculpture.
“It was a home for the client to be connected to nature when he is alone or be social with people when he entertains large groups of friends.”
As the client preferred a minimalist design and material palette, we designed indirect ambient lighting to evoke luxury for the senses. The use of glass to partition the bedroom and vanity counter also contributes to a light and open atmosphere, while at the same time, reflects the outdoor greenery to create an airy spacious interior.
Despite the relatively small size of this apartment, we achieved a design outcome that felt far from being just a bachelor’s pad. It was a home for the client to be connected to nature when he is alone or be social with people when he entertains large groups of friends.
This project was widely published and appeared in the cover page of Lookbox magazine.
Budget: $120,000
Timeline: 3 months
